Tomorrow is Inauguration Day. I’ll be with my community, helping provide a space for LGBTQ+ families in honor of Queer and Black History on MLK, Jr. Day. I hope you find things to help hold your spirit together.
I’ve been meaning to post sooner, but I’ve been working to prepare for this moment in my organizing spaces as well as feeling overwhelmed about the things I could talk about.
In my last post, I asked you to think about the things that were bringing you the most stress in the upcoming administration. For me, those things are attacks on immigrants and trans people, the overpowering machine of state propaganda and control of media, the loss of privacy, and the attacks on dissent. What were your reasons?
Today, I’m wondering what your interests are. How do you spend your time? These are the things that are going to inform where you plug in during this administration.
Have you been reading for the last several years and not taking much action? It’s time to act. We will never know everything; we will never be fully prepared for everything to come, but there are people and organizations that are ready to take you in, to build with you.
Based on your interests and biggest concerns, find organizations in your area and send an email or sign up for an event they have upcoming.
Some of the things I’ll post about here in the coming weeks and months are:
Community Care
Safety - Protest and Digital Safety
Know Your Rights Materials
Skill Assessments
Archiving and Protecting History
Tomorrow, breathe. Do something that will bring you joy. Know that knowing everything right now is not going to help anything. People are tracking everything Trump is doing. Spend time in nature. Create something. Love your people.
